AMD X2 4800+ $65 (I have a 4200+)
Decent Motherboard $50
2 GB Ram $25 (What I'm running now)
250GB HD $55 (I have a 100GB)
Case with 450-500W Power Supply $30
Radeon 2600 HD Pro w/DX10 Support $50 (I spent $60 on this at the time. It's probably cheaper than this now)
Building a computer for less than $300 that can run GW on highest settings with Vista Ultimate - Priceless. (Under the specs in (), I run GW at highest settings on Vista Ultimate and NO computer lag whatsoever. Just turn off that retarded System Restore function and turn off UAC and its on and crackin).

Screw havok, why would we want it on a game like Guild Wars?
Havok is good for games with loads of mindless destruction like Diablo or Warhammer 20k.
Oh yea, and also makes capes look more realistic...now THATS something.... NOT.

Don't forget to disable your antivirus and firewall for the extra epsilon in mega-perfs and uber-ping! I may have seen your computer in one of the russian botnets recently uncovered, the ones with a big sign over the comps "Please, take over my computer Mister hacker, I love to remove most of my security settings to see my awesome PC blasts computer benchmarks".
Who needs passwords anyway? /definitely end of sarcasm...

While its nice to see some solid evidence that GW2.0 is in the works, the fact that they just now are getting the tools to make it is kind of disheartening

Why? 2 Years planning, 2 years production makes sense to me. You really think we'd get a good game with anything less than that?

Eh...you can just manually set System Restore when you want and UAC isn't going to stop hackers any time soon. Don't really see your point. :d

Yeah could be bad.
I can see GW2 needing 256mb cards, which will axe out half of the players. Some people just dont' want to upgrade.

it isn't bad at all (only good) if you would read some of the earlier-not-Zinger posts, and if people don't want to upgrade then i want to know how they got PC's that were Guild Wars-capable. Upgrading is the name of the game as a PC user that plays games, and if you don't like it, you're playing the wrong game!

Jesus, are you on a Voodoo card or something? Relax, it isn't going to be Crysis Guild Wars.

That doesn't address the point that a large part of Guild War's success was its low specs relative to other games of its era.

A video card with 256 MB of memory is pretty much the minimum spec of any game these days. I imagine minimum system requirements will be somewhere around a Geforce 6800, maybe slightly higher. Keeping in mind the game isn't going to be released until at least the second half of 2009, that should be just fine.
If you bought your computer in the past year and it doesn't have integrated graphics I suspect you will be fine, Anet isn't stupid enough to make the game unplayable unless you have a $800 machine.

yes it does if you have a PC that barely runs Guild Wars or runs Guild Wars on medium, you'd have to be an idiot to not have to expect to upgrade for a game 5 years down the road. Guild Wars does have relative low specs...TO OTHER GAMES of its era, as you said, and what can barely run GW now isn't going to run GW2 later and people will have to upgrade. No one who is saying wahhh gotta upgrade can be running a PC worth of note since anything that runs GW maxed out at a high resolution with x4 AA and Post Processing is gonna be at the least good to go for minimum/medium (or higher if you're uber) settings for GW2.

With older consoles yes. But with current gen consoles having HDD space and keyboard& mouse function a well made mmo could be made to run without any "dumbing down". It alro cuts down on graphical bugs on that system because each console is the same.
I doubt Anet will do it any time soon but i wouldn't be suprised to see other compainies start releasing ps3/360 ports of mmo's in the future.

yes I agree with the statement of the lower req's for the game. I like that. As a matter of a fact this Vista CRAP is just the shite tee ist sh)t ho)l of a Moda friogn Ahhh. Insert superlatives here...
My Vista is crap. My window NT ran GW just fine and now my Vista drivers will not let me get to CoF or the underworld. Crap. This new one had better work or I'll I'll Write another post like this one!

Yes and no. It had lower specs and worse graphics than FPS's of its era, but that's to be expected. More remarkable was that it had about the same specs as the contemporary MMORPGs (e.g. World of Warcraft), but better graphics.
That it's graphics were actually very good for an RPG was what initially drew me from Everquest2 to GW - in 2005 the graphics of pre-searing had serious wow-factor.
I fully expect also GW2 to have better graphics than any contemporary MMORPG, without requiring stronger machines.

I agree with you. I'm just saying if the specs of Guild Wars 2 are HIGH (instead of low) for games of its era it will have a tough time selling in my opinion. The reason is because a good percentage of Guild Wars 1 players probably only play the game because they are capable of playing it (low specs and no monthly fee), and Guild Wars 1 players will be the majority selling point of Guild Wars 2.

yea but that won't happen, Anet takes a similar stance as Blizzard on reqs. and make them smaller than other games its gen.

If you had actually read the first couple of pages in this thread, you'd know that this isn't exactly "part" of the engine, but something that can be added at any time to scale back system requirements. Umbra is kinda an add-on, not something that is neccesary for the system to run at all. And thus, for all we know, the game engine could already be done (or it could not have even started yet, this really doesn't tell us anything).

Exactly
at this stage they will be in optimization and clean up stages, this is what starts not long before closed beta's start, so fingers crossed
